Le Zobeens
No *un. All fun. Pardon the pun.
Life has taken me to many a places.
Very interesting places.
Fascinating places.
Intriguing places.
But never before I had a chance to go to a Lesbian bar! My my my... what a spectacle! No offense to my carpet-muncher-friends out there, but it really just looks like a straight-bar packed with a lot of guys. And let's say; very very manly guys...
I think you catch the drift...
However,
I did witness the fastest pick-up in any bar in the world here...
From Zero-to-Kiss in less than 30 seconds.
Charlie, who btw IS a smashing looking brunette lesbian saw a blonde hottie, Rachel, entering the bar through the window. She darted. Before Rachel actually reached the bar, Charlie was not only with her... rather on her! In the time mere mortals like us make eye-contact, Charlie had made eye, ear, conversation & intimate contact!
All in 30 seconds...
Last I heard, they had a good time!
My hats off to the Le Zobeens!
We have much to learn...

Happy Birthday Noman!

Why do I look like a Walrus?
No reason is good enough for me to put this picture up in which I look like a bloody walrus.
Except Noman...
It's his birthday today!
And he's worth it.
We've known eachother since the 3rd grade.
He used to start crying when we were seated apart!*
The bitch has been after me through cities, countries... hell even continents. This photo, taken on my birthday/new years 2003 tells all really...
He's getting married next month!
I think that might help him get over me, finally...
;o)
Love you bitch...
Happy Birthday!
*
Actually,
I was the one who started crying!
Hehehehe
;o)

Enough Introspection...
Post
.

Post-London
I think I am...
Post-Parties.
Post-Concerts.
Post-Restuarants.
Post-Lovers.
Post-London.
I have had the best,
I don't want the rest.
From multi-million £ flats,
To paparazzi cabaret parties!
From the best clubs,
To the best lovers.
I think I pushed hedonism beyond its safe limit.
And then some.
But there is nothing beyond limits.
Nothing.
No end.
Do you want to watch a never-ending movie?
It's all plastic.
Or rubber.
Whatever you prefer?
I prefer the human touch.
If I stay here longer, I will become;
Post-Human.
.

Celebrate Opinion!
Madonna
"Dont' Talk. Don't Speak."
(Confessions 2006)
A Whore's Political Statement
In today's age of media-power and mass-celebrity, it's amazing how few public-personalities have the courage to voice their opinion. And the people who actually have something to say are labelled as publicitiy whores.
I'd rather be a whore than a politician.
At least whores don't murder people.
After all,
Opinions are like condoms.
Easy, personal and cheap.
Yet,
They save lives.
Whores use them.
I don't know if Politicians do?
Opinion.
Have one.
It's freedom.

Celebrate Freedom!
I Confess: I ♥ MADONNA
Like A Prayer... Answered!
"F*ck You! In my world, that means I ♥ You!"
Madonna, 14th of August, 2006
Wembley Arena
London, UK
------
Can you imagine me being speechless?
Infact, you don't have to...
I am.
I think I have never been this emotionally satisfied, as I am at this perfect moment in time; (3 am, 14th of August, 2006: Pakistan's Independece Day). Like I have been waiting for this moment for a quarter of a century. This moment of true bliss. This moment that belongs to the third most important woman in my life.
#1 My mother
#2 My sister
#3 Madonna
Why?
Because I bloody grew* up with all 3 of `em!
* and it wasn't easy!
------
Do you remember your first CD?
LP?
Record?
Cassette Tape?
I do:
Madonna "Live in Rome"
My first cassette. My first music. Almost two decades old.
Being played repeatedly in my home/car stereo at that time.
"Lucky Star"
"True Blue"
"La Isla Bonita"
In fact, La Isla Bonita is the first song I remember actually.
Just because all of my family loved it!
I guess it was just one of those things all of us could agree on.
Madonna!
Like family...
She was family.
She is family!
When I was growing up, she gave me True Blue.
When I moved to a new country, she gave me Ray of Light.
When I graduated from the U.S., she gave me American Life.
When I jumped into my MBA, she gave me Confessions.
Always giving...
I saw her for the first time in concert today.
And it almost feels like coming home.
Coming full circle.
Coming full circle with a lot of things.
With the pinnacle of my London experience.
With the decision that I have to get back to my family.
With the realisation that it can't get better than this.
With the devotion to where I come from.
With the satisfaction of who I am!
The "Madonna-Confessions-Disco-Ball" Key Chain
She was fantatstic.
If you have grown up with Madonna and you get to see her in concert; its almost like seeing a long lost family relative. Because you have grown up with just images & photographs of that important person in your life to whom you are connected to.
And when they appear in flesh...
And it's priceless!
I apologise because this post is not really a "concert-review"!
Just because of the simple reason that it wasn't just a concert to me...
It was independece.
It was love.
It was family.

Once upon a time,

We Were Beautiful
"Kabhie Hum Khoobsurat Thay"
by
Faiz Ahmed Faiz
Once upon a time,
We were beautiful.
The scent of crushed flowers in a book,
Our breath was just as still.
As dawn.
Drew pictures worth a thousand untold words.
Wrote poems on feathers of birds,
From far-off lands,
Lands of fireflies & mermaids.
The first ray,
Everyday,
Brought a new way.
And we asked mother to kiss us farewell,
As we had to go there...
Once upon a time,
We were hopeful.
Once upon a time,
We were beautiful.
~
One of my favourite Urdu poems...

In A Labyrinth...

You find a way!
I re-watched Labyrinth almost 15 years after I first watched it...
I still remember it just popping up on TV when my sister & I were just about to go to bed on a weekend. I remember the movie to be so good that even my Mum refused to go to bed till it finished. And never once did she say that it was way way past our bedtime...
I think it just made her feel like a child again.
Just like it does to me, after 15 years...
The fantastic thing about this dark fairy tale is that it's never sugar-coated.
Danger is danger. Adventure is adventure. Friends are friends.
There is no "Disney'fication' at all...

And it still resonates...
About how we fill up our lives with things rather than family & friends!
Because we think that its things that bring us happiness.
But we are never old enough to realise that sometimes.
Until we watch Labyrinth again...
It's only family & friends who help us through our own lybrinths...
Labyrinths of love, laws & life.
And I love thee!

Gotta Hand it to Pink...
"U + U'r Hand" Video Premier
Yeap...
Pink is in top art form in her new video; "U + Ur Hand". Brilliant, punchy and strong art-direction inspired by the works of Martin F. Emond. Not since "Just Like A Pill", Pink has come up with something this edgy...
Great video.
But nothing beats watching her pump it out live in her concert! :o)
The BETCH keeps it up! ;o)
p.s.
1 week till Madonna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omkara: The Bollywood Adaptation of "Othello"

Emotional, Social and Colourful Vibrancy
Somehow seems wrong doesn't it?
A Bollywood adaptation of a Shakespearean Classic, Othello.
But it works! Beautifully...
Such is the genius of Shakespeare...
And of director Vishal Bharadwaj
I have to say that I went into the theater without thinking much of it really. It was OrangeWednesday, Salmand suggested and we decided to go! It blew me out of the water really, which is saying something because I am not a huge fan of Bollywood. I do enjoy it from time to time, but this one took the cake. After the fizzed-out summer offerings like X3 and Superman, finally some entertainment...
The Art Direction deserves a special mention.
Set in rural UP, India; the colour palette is a lush desert full of life. Like a Frida Kahlo painting on Khaddar (rough cotton), Omkara sooths the eyes yet wrenches the heart. The performances are fantastic; and for a second, you do forget that Saif Ali Khan is not him, but Iago himself.
Enchanting Soundtrack.
Vile Language.
Gritty Violence.
Gorgeous Sensuality.
Extreme Tragedy.
Aren't we entertained yet?

Dissertation Moment
Aaaaarghh!!!!
No. It's not done.
No. I haven't finished yet.
No. I couldn't have done it this early.
No. I am not who you think I am.
No. I think you are crazy!
No....
NO!!!!
You Bloody $#*&£!!
These are usually how my conversations go when people ask me about my dissertation. I love it really. I love my topic. I love working on it. I love what its coming out to be.
The question is; Is anybody else going to love it?
Somehow, it makes me think...
Everyone says;
Before anyone else loves you, you have to love yourself first!
But what if you DO love yourself, but nobody else loves you back? :o)
Is self-love enough?
Or do all of us need people to be graded by another love, outside our own?
Like my dissertation...
I am going out...
Not to find love.
But, a lovely dance-floor!

Blacks & Whites

No Grey Areas in Greenwich, UK.
Sometimes; Its wonderful to see things in Black & White.
Its a line that divides us and decides us.
Just like this ship called the Cutty Stark in Greenwhich.
It divides Land & Sea.
Just like this line called the Meridian in Greenwich.
It divides East & West.
It liberates you from all those grey areas we keep wandering in for most of our lives. Those grey areas of relationships, relegions, races and regrets.
The moment you see the world in Black and White; is the moment it all becomes clear.
Contrasingly clear.
The moment we decide what we want...
Black or White?
Blacks or Whites?
Or does that divides us as well?
AngelA

Not a film.
A poem.
A photograph.
I didn't watch a film....
I think I saw a beautiful black & white photograph of Paris laced with its wonderful sights and senses. AngelA is just not another film you will watch. An astounding feat of ungodly beauty by Luc Besson.
It potrays good & evil.
God & Devil.
Good & Bad.
Angels & Demons.
Black & White.
Blacks & Whites.
We are not one.
We are two.
We are both.
We are us.
